Chateau Yaldara 1847 Wines

Description:

1847 Wines
The land grant on the historic Rowland Flat property was proclaimed by the Governor in 1847.

This, in turn, heralded the commencement of a journey to fine wine craftsmanship that continues to this day. 1847 Wines has now grown to encompass 80 hectares (200 acres) of estate vineyards that are the source of the majority of our premium wine portfolio.

Chateau Yaldara Wines
The philosophy behind the Yaldara Wine Collection stems from its founder Hermann Thumm who first started crafting Barossa Wines in 1947 and was one of the regions first boutique winemakers.

Thumm pushed the boundaries of Australian winemaking through his appetite for experimentation with wine techniques, styles and blends. Today, we embrace this approach through the crafting of balanced, structural wines that showcase the harmony of varietal integrity from the select premium South Australian wine regions of the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale.

The Chateau
Our home is at the iconic Chateau Yaldara, near the southern Barossa town of Lyndoch.

Hermann Thumm founded Chateau Yaldara in 1947 after he migrated to Australia from Europe. The site chosen for the winery was on the banks of the North Para River at a flax mill dating back to 1867. Today, we keep his vision alive with estate-grown, hand-crafted wines, locally-produced artisan foods and a truly Barossan visitor experience. Chateau Yaldara’s beautiful riverside restaurant offers relaxed all-day dining, with a selection of dishes for any appetite.

Lovely wine in a beautiful venue served by friendly staff! Also purchased a Brie cheese made in the Barossa from their fridge which was the best I have had in a long time!

Not too bad, we were lead out the back for a quick wine tasting after lunch at the Vintage Chef Co. The staff were accommodating. The grounds here are the best part, though. Great photo opportunities. Classy inside. Lovely

Absolutely beautiful location, historical buildings, lots of places to sit outside, a cafe (we'll go to next time) looked to be open for breakfast on a Sunday. Approaching from the south there is a huge man made lake/pond. I can't comment on their wines as I am yet to taste them.
